Advertising Webmaster (web standards designer)
timeframe: full-time, available immediately
W. W. Norton & Company is an independent and employee-owned publishing house with robust trade, professional, and college textbook divisions. The Advertising Webmaster is responsible for maintaining the principle site for Norton’s College Division, wwnorton.com/college (3,500+ pages). Duties will include updating existing pages, designing online advertisements, launching HTML email campaigns, and creating new mini-sites for our ever-growing booklist.
This position requires interacting with the entire college textbook division, from editors to marketers to production managers. We are looking for someone with 1-2 years experience in web design, with an established ability to manage multiple projects and meet important deadlines. This is an excellent opportunity to learn about college publishing and to help the Advertising Department grow as we expand our web presence.
Requirements include:
* Proficiency in XHTML and CSS
* Experience with semantic and valid markup and page structure
* Experience using FTP software
* Flash and basic Actionscripting
* Basic knowledge of Javascript
* Proficiency in Photoshop, for both creation and optimization of graphics
* Knowledge of accessibility issues (section 508 compliance)
Additional qualifications include a good eye for design, an ability to work efficiently and autonomously, and a strong interest in book publishing.
