	<description>W. W. Norton &amp; Company is an independent and employee-owned publishing house with robust trade, professional, and college textbook divisions. The Advertising Webmaster is responsible for maintaining the principle site for Norton’s College Division, wwnorton.com/college (3,500+ pages). Duties will include updating existing pages, designing online advertisements, launching HTML email campaigns, and creating new mini-sites for our ever-growing booklist.

This position requires interacting with the entire college textbook division, from editors to marketers to production managers. We are looking for someone with 1-2 years experience in web design, with an established ability to manage multiple projects and meet important deadlines. This is an excellent opportunity to learn about college publishing and to help the Advertising Department grow as we expand our web presence.

Requirements include:
    * Proficiency in XHTML and CSS
    * Experience with semantic and valid markup and page structure
    * Experience using FTP software
    * Flash and basic Actionscripting
    * Basic knowledge of Javascript
    * Proficiency in Photoshop, for both creation and optimization of graphics
    * Knowledge of accessibility issues (section 508 compliance)

Additional qualifications include a good eye for design, an ability to work efficiently and autonomously, and a strong interest in book publishing.

Position Responsibilities

Collaborate with project team and fellow designers to maintain consistent designs that align with client expectations and project initiatives.
Ability to work under tight time constraints and within project deadlines
Ability to apply your knowledge of color theory, typography, motion graphics, illustration, branding, storytelling and iconography on a broad range of projects.
Create powerful and integrated experiences taking into consideration of content, navigation structure and usability issues.
Ability to design compelling visual executions using Flash, Photoshop, Illustrator.
Working knowledge of CSS, XHTML, or PHP a plus.
Create interfaces taking into consideration usability and visual hierarchy.
Effectively work in a team environment and contribute your ideas in a clear and concise manner.
Ability to generate multiple and distinct compositions while interpreting client’s needs outlined in creative briefs.

Qualifications

Design related degree and/or equivalent work experience.
At least three (3) years of work experience in a design firm, agency or studio.
Strong working knowledge of design software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, and Flash. Knowledge of Director, After Effects, and 3D software definitely a plus.
A tight portfolio displaying creative flair demonstrating experience in developing interactive and multimedia work.
Experience applying theories related to color themes, use of space, typography, and visual hierarchy.
